Trip to Toronto!

A few weeks ago I went to Toronto. I’ve been to Toronto before but I was younger and was with my parents. This time, I went to visit my brother who has lived there for a few years. I’m also very lucky that two of my best girls met me in Toronto and needless to say, we had fun. My goal for this trip was to relax, have fun, and enjoy the company I was with. I wasn’t into the sight seeing on this trip. We ate at fantastic restaurants, saw a Jays game (they lost), ran into a beer fest (they find me, I swear!), and shopped…. Oopsie! Here are a few photos – enjoy!

PS. I’ve got a few new videos up on my YouTube Channel! Go check them out! <3

Video: Columbia Lake, BC

You all know how much I love to show off where I live. Yesterday evening, my boyfriend’s boss took us on a little boat ride and swim on Columbia Lake. The weather has consistently been above or around 30 degrees for the past little while and the only way to sufficiently cool down is to jump in the lake. Oh lake. How I love you so.

Vlog | A Cabin Adventure

So, June already, hey? WHERE DOES TIME GO?!

A couple weekends ago we took a little trip to the family cabin and I “vlogged” some of it (vlog = video blog). Hope you enjoy!

Dream On

dream on dreamer

I’m not much of a quote kind of gal, in fact, I scoff at most. Some might even call me a pessimist. There are those days, however, that one needs to retreat from the present and create a bit of a happy place for themselves. When something isn’t going right at work, or after an argument with a loved one, I often find myself floating into a sleepless dream. I think we have to allow ourselves that ability to escape – escape the pressing deadlines, the ringing phone, the pile of bills – and dream of a place you’d much rather be.

So dream on, dreamer. It’s good for you.

Ps. How do you like the new look? I’m not 100% on board yet, but with a little tweaking (or twerking, whatever floats your boat) I think I’ll like it!

A post during the middle of the week? But this is madness? No friends, I’m just trying to be a little more organized with my little life – and it’s working.

It finally feels like spring. Though it isn’t the most attractive season what with the gravel everywhere, melting snow, and lack of any green yet, HOWEVER, it still feels very refreshing. It totally gets me motivated to actually get to the things I’ve been wanting to over the last few months and become a little more organized. Also, who doesn’t love fresh tulips? They’ve got to be one of my favourite flowers.

Yes. That is a mandolin. No, I can’t play it. But I’m learning and that’s what is important, right? Right. This ties in with the whole ‘starting fresh’ theme of this post. I received this mandolin a few years ago as a birthday present. I was eager at first and even went to lessons which I thought were vital for an instrument I have NO clue about. I took a few lessons and then my teacher quit, so I was a little turned off by the instrument and felt a little helpless.

Fast forward to now and being in a new town, meeting new people, and everything being foreign, having something that you can push yourself to improve on that is just yours is really rewarding. I’ve been teaching myself with a few “learn it” books and I’m actually quite surprised at my progress.

In short, I’m welcoming spring with wide open arms and I can’t wait for those warm, summer nights!

I could end this post with the title, but you guys want to hear my opinion on this subject, right? When I introduced Soapbox Sunday to Read Me, Dear, I never said all topics were going to be intellectually stimulating, now did I? No. I did not. So shall we?

Taylor Swift is a nice young woman who has everything going for her and you need to quit harping on her. My Mom is a teacher, an incredible teacher might I add (I love you Mommy) and a few years ago she taught a grade 4 class for advanced kids. These kids were around 9 or 10 years old. I would love going to her classroom after university classes on Friday afternoons and hang with the kids and help my Mom in her classroom. I remember one afternoon she asked me if she could borrow my Taylor Swift CD. I said “Sure Mom, but I didn’t know you were a fan.” She said “I’m not, but the girls want to listen to her and their parents won’t let them have the CD.” …. *Jaw drops* “You’re kidding me,” I say. “Nope,” says Mama C.

Taylor Swift. These parents wouldn’t let their girls listen to Taylor Swift. Let’s just take a look back to the mid 90s and remember what kind of shit we listened to as youngsters before we clued in to what real music is, shall we? Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, B4-4, O-Town (remember Liquid Dreams – yeah… wtf), N Sync, Pink …(shit, she’s been around for a long time), and the list could go on forever.

T Swifty is the most innocent role model a parent could ask for. She’s public about how she doesn’t drink or do drugs, she hardly wears anything revealing, she runs her own shit and does it well, and she’s all around awesome. Plus, I don’t care if you think this face isn’t genuine, it’s adorable…

So no, she may not be the most musically talented, but she’s one of the most genuinely  good role models out there right now. And let her date whoever the hell she wants… she’s 23 and that’s what you’re supposed to be doing.

So sing on Taylor Swift, sing on. I GOT YOUR BACK, GIRL!

Life, right?

I think I’ve used that as an intro to one of my posts before. Oh well. My blog, my rules ya’ll. Also, no one reads my blog anyway so I’m good on the repetition of my best material.

Off track. Oh boy.

So, remember when I said I was training for a 1/2 marathon and then I completely changed my life and moved 2 months later? No? Well, I do. I was bummed once I realized that I would not longer be able to get out to Vancouver to run a 1/2, so I quit training altogether. Like I said, I was making major life changes so I needed a bit of a break from the running (not that I was far into training anyway).

Now that I’ve got things in order on the life front, the little pooch on my belly keeps reminding me that I need to dust off the runners and get moving again. Exercise makes a HUGE difference in how I feel, more specifically, my confidence. I’ve never done a workout and felt like shit after, so what’s been stopping me?

A co worker told me about a 1/2 marathon that takes places in my area around mid-August and I made the decision right then and there to run it. I’ve got just over 4 months. 16 weeks. Totally doable. (holyshitwhatamidoing)

Here we go again, pals. Yay for a smaller beer gut!

You probably have an opinion on most things, right? Well I do too. I would say I’m a pretty open-minded person. I listen to other people and judge only when prejudice arises, which, for some, is constant. I try not to force my opinions on others and give those opinions only when they are asked for (… maybe not ONLY.) But this here blog of mine means that I could, potentially, tell the world about how much I love Amy Poehler, that people are lying when they tell you how much TV they watch, and that a woman needs women in her life to survive. See those, well, those were my opinions on menial things, except the last one… I believe that wholeheartedly .

I’m blethering. I want to introduce Soap Box Sunday to Read Me, Dear. What’s a Soap Box? People used to literally take the wooden boxes that bulk soap came in, turn them over, and shout out to the world. This blog = my soap box. There will be a wide variety of topics – some I care strongly about, others will be remnants of a wine induced conversation I had the night before. You win some, you lose some. That’s life.

So, in short, if you’re into listening to opinions, engaging in conversation, and being awesome, check back every Sunday for my weekly soap box rant.

It’s been quite the month for me and I am looking forward to what February has to bring. I came back from vacation knowing that I’d be going on another 1/2 vacation very soon. Long story short, the 1/2 vacation turned into a full-time job and moving to the interior of BC. I wasn’t lying when I said it’s been an interesting month.

Vancouver, you’re lovely. But you can be a bitch sometimes when it comes to being a young woman trying to start a career in a fairly general field. I’ll be back, I hope. Maybe not, who really knows? BUT, the point is, I’m giving something and somewhere else a shot for a while. Sometimes the most unexpected changes can be the most welcome ones. I start the new job on Monday so I’ve had a couple weeks of exploring the area and reading Netflix (let’s at least try to be honest). So… here’s a few photos from a hike up the HooDoos. Photos are courtesy of my Boyfriend ;)

I’ll tell you one thing about this place, it’s incredibly outdoorsy. So, I’m going to need to learn how to be a winter outdoorsy gal… it’s a struggle, but if Britney Spears got through 2007 then my goodness, I can learn how to snowboard, skate, snowshoe, cross-country ski…. and the list goes on.
