It’s here. Winter is here and while I’m not much of a snow bunny (I’m working on that) I do love this time of year solely because of the upcoming Holidays. I’ve always loved decorating for Christmas. I was often the one egging my parents on to put up the tree earlier and earlier. Last year, I put it up alone because I just plain wanted it up!

This year’s a bit different though as I’m now on my own AND living with a boy. Besides a couple of Christmasy items we’ve been given, our place is looking a little bare as far as Holiday decor goes. We are leaving on the 20th for a couple of weeks so we’ll be missing the whole darn event, which bodes the question: why even decorate?

We aren’t going to be buying a tree this year and we aren’t going to be doing anything very drastic with the rest of our decor. We were given a few things which we will put up but other than that, our house is going to be pretty bare. This got me searching on Pinterest for some subtle Holiday decor that I can even make myself. If you’ve been following me on Pinterest lately, you’re probably the victim of an influx of adorable holiday pins. I’m not sorry. As usual after I’ve wasted quite a few hours on that darn site, here are some photos of what I’d love to create in my home and ideas for the future:

Are you decorating? Do you go all out? Let me know! Have a lovely day!

Before I forget, I’ve got a brand new video of some recent book purchases and the beloved Kobo e-reader.

Dream On

dream on dreamer

I’m not much of a quote kind of gal, in fact, I scoff at most. Some might even call me a pessimist. There are those days, however, that one needs to retreat from the present and create a bit of a happy place for themselves. When something isn’t going right at work, or after an argument with a loved one, I often find myself floating into a sleepless dream. I think we have to allow ourselves that ability to escape – escape the pressing deadlines, the ringing phone, the pile of bills – and dream of a place you’d much rather be.

So dream on, dreamer. It’s good for you.

Ps. How do you like the new look? I’m not 100% on board yet, but with a little tweaking (or twerking, whatever floats your boat) I think I’ll like it!

What a hilarious time your 20s are, am I right? So much confusion, misery, and sadness, yet so much optimism, love, and passion. As the responsibilities begin to pile up, I often forget that I’m still only 24. I feel such a sense of urgency but then stop and try to think what that urgency is for. As I’m building my life with someone else and making responsible decisions like buying a set of cookware rather than a beautiful new summer dress, I have to remind myself to enjoy the process of creating a little life for myself and someone else. To make this process a little more exciting, I’m remembering that a new place means new decor! Enter Pinterest.

Have I mentioned to you guys how much I love Pinterest? Yes. Yes you have, Ali. I’m planning on doing another post on the ridiculousness of Pinterest in the near future, but let’s just forget about that right now, shall we?

I love to save money and I love a good DIY project, so I’ve been busy figuring out how I can take second hand and cheap IKEA furniture and turn it into something unique with only a few extra bucks. Even more than saving money, I love the satisfaction of making and finishing a project and answering “I made it!” when someone asks “where’d you get that?”

So with all the boring, adult things growing up brings, I’m finding it easier to find joy in the fact that I’ve got so many adventures ahead of me and so many hours to waste on Pinterest spend in the great outdoors being active and sporty and shit….

Cheers

Colour is a funny thing, no? Do you have a favourite colour? Mine is green. I like to decorate with small green accents everywhere. But when it comes to wearing green,  well, it’s not a reoccuring colour in my wardrobe. Black is though. Black. How I love you so! The way you just command power sometimes. You combined with soft, supple leather… DAMN GIRL! ;) I like to wear black. All black, in fact. Layers upon layers of black clothing, shoes, and accessories All different textures and fabrics. I’ve been collecting a few photos of all black everthaaang and I thought I’d share, because why not?

…right? I mean, come on. HOT.

Cheers!
